Home Health Aide Job Outlook
HHA Jobs
Home Health Aide jobs in Florida are growing quickly! Home Health Aides make an extraordinary difference for clients that are chronically ill, elderly or disabled or just need short term assistance such as a mother with a newborn. Baby boomers are projected to have a growing need for home health aides who can assist with household chores, activities of daily living and companionship. With the changes in health insurance and the advancement of the Affordable Care Act, the demand for home care is a one of the fastest growing segments in the healthcare field with many opportunities.. Furthermore, the cost of providing health care in hospitals and in-patient facilities has become increasingly expensive. To reduce costs, patients are being discharged earlier than ever.
Most people who need health care assistance prefer to stay in their everyday surroundings. Being in familiar surroundings typically improves a person’s mental and physical well-being. Home health aides play an important role enabling people to stay in their preferred home environments as HHAs will be contracted to provide nursing care and assistance for as long as is medically deemed necessary. In addition, HHAs often provide respite care for family members who may need short-term relief from the physical and emotional stress of caregiving.
Therefore, the demand for properly trained home health aides who can provide compassionate and competent care for one to multiple clients is expected to increase even more over the next 10 to 20 years. The Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts 36 percent growth of HHA jobs nationally from 2018 to 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations. More than 304,800 new home health aide positions are projected to be created over the next decade. US News and World Reports on Best Jobs ranks HHA as #1 in Best Jobs without a college degree and #4 in Best Healthcare Support Jobs. The home health aide helps with activities of daily living such as dressing and bathing plus light meal preparation while also keeping homes safe and clean. Home health aides are considered an integral part of a successful healthcare system. In fact, HHAs are with their clients so often that, in many instances, they become like family members. “Many of our patients will think of their [home health aide] as the nurse that really cured them because he or she helped them do the things they needed to do to get well,” says Andrea Devoti, chairman of the National Association for Home Care & Hospice (“Home Health Aide Job Overview | Best Jobs | US News Careers,” 2020).
